Can You Take Boostaro With Blood Thinners or Viagra?

Quick answer

Ask your prescriber first. Vitamin K2 opposes warfarin, nattokinase and pine bark affect clotting, and L-citrulline acts on the same pathway as nitrates and erectile dysfunction pills. Magnesium and citrulline may also nudge blood pressure. This page is a prompt for that talk, not medical advice.

Key facts
  • Vitamin K2 works directly against warfarin and similar vitamin K antagonist drugs.
  • Nattokinase piles onto the effect of anticoagulants and antiplatelets, and it is normally paused before surgery.
  • Maritime pine bark has a mild antiplatelet effect in some studies.
  • L-citrulline feeds the nitric oxide pathway that nitrates and PDE5 inhibitors also act on.
  • Magnesium reduces absorption of some antibiotics and bisphosphonates.
  • No ingredient amounts are published, so no interaction can be ruled out by arithmetic.

Can you take Boostaro with blood thinners?

This is the clearest warning on the whole panel, so we start with it. Three of the seven ingredients touch the way blood clots.

  • Vitamin K2 works against warfarin and other vitamin K antagonists. Warfarin is dosed against a blood test called the INR. A change in vitamin K intake can move that number.
  • Nattokinase is an enzyme studied for breaking down fibrin, a protein in clots. It adds to the effect of anticoagulants such as apixaban, and to antiplatelet drugs such as clopidogrel, and to aspirin therapy.
  • Maritime pine bark has a mild antiplatelet effect in some studies.

Put those three in one capsule and the point is not subtle. If you take a blood thinner of any kind, do not start Boostaro on your own. Talk to the clinician who manages that medicine, show them the ingredient list, and tell them the amounts are not published.

If your clinician says yes, ask what to watch for. If they say no, accept that. Nothing on the label is worth a bleed.

Can you take Boostaro with Viagra or other erectile dysfunction pills?

Here the ingredient to think about is L-citrulline. The body turns it into L-arginine and then into nitric oxide. Prescription erectile dysfunction pills, the PDE5 class that includes sildenafil and tadalafil, also work on the nitric oxide pathway.

Two things on the same road can add up. That may be harmless, or it may not be, and the label gives no amount to judge by. This is not a question a website can answer, and it is one your prescriber can answer quickly.

The Boostaro bottle does not claim to treat erectile dysfunction, and no supplement may. If you already have a prescription for it, take that as a sign you have a doctor to ask. Carry the bottle or a picture of the panel to the visit.

Can you take Boostaro with nitrates for chest pain?

Nitrates for angina are a special case. Nitrates are an absolute contraindication with erectile dysfunction pills, which means the two must not be combined. L-citrulline sits in that same territory.

So the rule for anyone on nitrates is simple: do not start Boostaro unless the prescriber who gave you the nitrate has said it is acceptable. Also consider the hidden-drug issue. Products in this category have been found with undeclared prescription drug copies, and a man on nitrates has the most to lose from a surprise ingredient.

Can you take Boostaro with blood pressure medicine or high blood pressure?

Two ingredients have small blood pressure effects in research. Across 34 double-blind trials, magnesium at a median of 368 mg a day for 3 months lowered systolic pressure by about 2 mmHg. A trial of nattokinase at 2,000 fibrinolytic units a day for 8 weeks saw about 5.5 mmHg. A review of citrulline trials found small, dose-linked drops.

Those drops are small, and they came at set doses we cannot match. But if you take medicine for blood pressure, a small extra push in the same direction is worth a mention at your next review. Never stop or change your medicine because of a supplement, and never use a supplement to replace a prescription.

If you have high blood pressure that is not well controlled, the better first step is a plain talk with your doctor about the basics: sleep, alcohol, weight, salt and movement. Those do more than any capsule in this category.

Which medicines should you list for your pharmacist?

Use this table as a checklist. It is a prompt for a conversation, and your prescriber has the final word.

If you takeIngredient involvedWhat to do
Warfarin or similarVitamin K2Speak to the clinician managing your INR
Apixaban, rivaroxaban, clopidogrelNattokinase, pine barkAsk the prescriber before starting

If a medicine is not on this list, that does not make it safe. A pharmacist who sees your full list is better placed to judge than any website, including this one.

What should you say to your doctor?

A short script helps. Try something like this:

  1. “I am thinking of taking a daily capsule called Boostaro. It has seven ingredients: L-citrulline, maritime pine bark extract, vitamin C, L-lysine, magnesium, vitamin K2 and nattokinase.”
  2. “The label does not publish the amount of any of them.”
  3. “I take these medicines: …”
  4. “Is there any reason I should not take it, and is there anything I should watch for?”

Bring the bottle, or a picture of its Supplement Facts panel, when it comes. If you have not bought it yet, take this page.

What about surgery and dental work?

Tell the surgical or dental team about any product with nattokinase and vitamin K2. Anything with fibrinolytic activity is normally paused before a procedure, and only the team can tell you how many days before. Do not guess a number.

Also tell them about the pine bark extract. It is the least obvious of the three clotting-related ingredients, and it is easy to forget.

Frequently asked questions

Can you take Boostaro with blood thinners?

Not without asking the clinician who prescribes them. Vitamin K2 opposes warfarin, and nattokinase and pine bark extract both affect clotting.

Can you take Boostaro with Viagra?

Ask your prescriber. L-citrulline acts on the nitric oxide pathway, the same pathway erectile dysfunction pills work on, and the label gives no amount to judge by.

Can you take Boostaro with blood pressure medicine?

Mention it to your doctor first. Magnesium and L-citrulline have small blood pressure effects in research, and the doses on this label are not published.

Can you take Boostaro with high blood pressure?

Ask your doctor before starting. High blood pressure needs proper care, and a supplement should never replace or change a prescription.

Should I stop Boostaro before surgery?

Tell the surgical team you take nattokinase and vitamin K2 and ask when to stop. Products with fibrinolytic activity are normally paused before a procedure.

Does magnesium in Boostaro affect other medicines?

Taken together with them, it can cut how much of some antibiotics and bisphosphonates you absorb. Space the doses by at least two hours and check with a pharmacist.

Plain facts. Boostaro is a dietary supplement. It is not FDA approved, and no dietary supplement is. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration, and this product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Nothing on this page is medical advice. Talk to a doctor before use if you take medicine or have a health condition.

Our view

Of all the pages on a supplement site, this is the one we most want you to use. The interactions are specific, they are known, and they are easy to check with one phone call.

We would not call Boostaro a bad product for someone on medicine. We would say that four of its seven ingredients are things a prescriber wants to hear about. Take the bottle to the appointment and let the person who knows your history decide.

If your clinician agrees and you decide to go ahead, the guarantee gives you time to see how it sits with you.
